Church of Sant'Appolinaire in Classe Fuori
Near Ravenna Italy. This beautiful and very old church was begun about 530 A.D. and consecrated in 549 A.D., at a time when Ravenna was the seat of the governor of Italy, under the Byzantine Emperor Justinian. Ravenna contains many other very old churches constructed at about this time. Ravenna's importance later declined, and the city today is an architectural time capsule from a very long time ago.
